Another NHS Trust in England connects to world leading national digital pathology network

The National Pathology Imaging Co-operative (NPIC) has successfully connected another NHS Hospital Trust to its national digital pathology imaging network. This marks another major step towards national roll-out of the system, delivering on NPIC’s mission to revolutionise NHS pathology, enabling sharing of expertise, and harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) in diagnosis.

Harrogate & District NHS Foundation Trust have now linked to the NPIC digital pathology picture archiving and communication system (PACS). This high-capacity pathology image repository and exchange system will revolutionise how pathologists provide patient services and expert opinions, which will facilitate digital transformation across pathology for the Trust.

This will not only aid reducing waiting times and increase reliability of decisions but offer the ability for digital images to be extracted and anonymised for the purpose of research, training, and support testing of AI algorithms to help medical professionals make more efficient diagnoses.

Deployment will continue throughout 2023 as part of a national scale across the country, connecting our further NHS partners into the national network, benefitting millions of patients.

“This is a huge achievement for everyone involved and it’s great to see another NHS partner hospital connecting into the platform. Looking forward to seeing more partner Trusts joining throughout this year.”
